Role & Responsibilities

 

This role will focus on creating, designing and implementing a risk function that supports the strategic goals of the Bank.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Setting the vision and strategy for the enterprise risk function working in

conjunction with all other senior leadership across the Bank.

 

  • Building a robust risk management framework and architecture for the

Bank, bringing together a number of teams (operational risk, credit

administration, enterprise risk management, market risk, stress testing, modeling and analytics) and managing the enterprise wide risk.

 

  • Building and leading a highly collaborative and proactive risk function

that is able to navigate the increasingly complex business and regulatory

environment that the Bank operates in, Nigeria as well as globally.

 

  • Ensuring a system-wide view and understanding of the combined risks

of the business and their inter-relationships (liquidity

risk, operating risk, credit risk, reputational risk, regulatory risk).

 

  • Formulating and articulating a coherent risk appetite and infrastructure,

including operating and financial models and hiring plans.

 

  • Embedding a positive culture of confident and informed risk-taking

through training, communication and promotion of the agreed risk

framework.

 

  • Partnering effectively with third parties, regulatory bodies and others, as

appropriate and serving as a role model for high personal and corporate

ethical values and standards of integrity.

 

  • Responsible for compiling, assessing and reporting risk information to

the top management and the Board.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Post graduate degree from any discipline

 

  • Minimum 15 years of functional risk experience in the areas of Retail Risk, Corporate, Institutional & Commercial Clients Risk, Market Risk and Operational Risk in banks is essential.

 

  • Exposure to analytics would be an added advantage.

 

  • Applicants should possess the following attributes:

 

  1. Good knowledge and grasp of banking practices, financial markets,

Basel III and products at a higher level and awareness of the country

Regulatory framework.

 

  1. Strong analytical and dispute resolution skills. Ability to make

independent decisions with a strong sense of empowerment and

leadership skills to command the respect of a cross functional set of

professionals at senior level (internal and external) working in open

ended situations.

 

  1. Leadership: Significant leadership experience gained with large teams.

 

  1. Communication Skills: Effectively interact with the leadership at the bank

and also with the Board as appropriate.

 

  1. Influencing: Influence decisions with internal stakeholders in the bank.

 

  1. Ethical Standards: Must have high ethical standards, credibility and a

commitment to best practices.

 

  1. Teamwork: Actively collaborate through communicating fully and openly,

while showing a deep respect for others.

 

  1. External Relationship Management: Respected authority who can

represent the firm in front of regulators, legislators and other key constituents
